    Re: Apparatus Happenings

    Chief 33,

I am curious why the sale of a not so old rig?  Problems, or just outlived its necessity?

     Thanks

    Re: Apparatus Happenings

What was the rationale for selling a truck that was only 7 years old and replacing it with a brand new truck?  Also, what is the rationale for buying a rescue truck when you are surrounded by R31, R32, R10, and R12.  It is obvious overkill in apparatus and a huge waste of funds.  I know it sucks only being an engine company.  However, if you're looking to have a specialty piece, there are other apparatus applications that could be used in this part of lower end like an actual air truck or, maybe, a canteen.

    Re: Apparatus Happenings

Just curious if there was any new orders out there ?  You might not be aware of what is going on the in apparatus industry in regards to the emission regulations starting in 2010 and the most likely price increase as of 01/2009 with most manufactures which is prompting a lot of companies to order by year end.  There is some sleeper companies out there who are seriously looking to see if they can run there financial numbers to make it or not.  I am also interested in the squad/utility vehicles also.  Some of the manufactures have even moved up some of there deliveries due to a slow down at their factories. So, does anybody have anything new to report ?

Also, I need the following pictures of rigs for my own collection, not to be posted anywhere else.  If anyone has any of these, please send them to me via e-mail at  www.ba000049@aol.com

    Springton – 1985 Chevrolet p/u

    Warrington – 2007 Pierce Enforcer engine & 2004 E-One ladder

    Richland Twp. – 2008 Chevrolet

Midway – both of the 2007 Pierce Quantum engines

    Hilltown – Duplex/LTI quint

Northampton – 1987 Ford C tanker with the new paint job

    Many thanks,

    Bruce,

I stand corrected about the coloring of Ivylands' old Tac unit. The SWAT team painted it black. My first look it actually looked like a very dark blue but when I saw it again it is definitely black. Looks really good.

    Capt62,

If it doesn't pose a threat to national security, could you get a photo of it and send it to me for my history file ?

    Many thanks,

    Re: Apparatus Happenings

It has been a month since I rattled your brains for any news on apparatus.  Time to fess up with some more info.  Please pass along anything new you know. Hear is what I have learned in the past month:

EDDINGTON                       Update: ordered a KME Predator, 4-door six man cab, 1500/750, Cummins, 425HP, rescue-style body, 10KW Harrison hydraulic generator, no light tower, non-painted rollup doors, estimated delivery is 6/09.  Sold the 1993 E-One engine to a fire company in WV.   They also placed their classic 1961 GMC field piece out of service for good.  The company will retain this as an antique.

MILFORD TWP.                  They have taken delivery of a Ford F Super Duty 4-door chassis with a PolyBilt body, to be used as a Special Service unit.  Looks something like Perkasie’s traffic unit.

LEVITTOWN #2                  Took delivery of their Emergency One Typhoon rescue-engine on 10/6.  Their 1984 Seagrave engine which was for sale, was donated to the Lower Bucks County Fire Training Center which is yet to be built.

CROYDEN                           Putting a committee together to spec out a engine to replace the 1980 Mack MC engine – want it the same size.

TRUMSBAURESVILLE       Their Rescue 58 (1997 Spartan Metro/Marion) will be out of service for about two months while it goes under a minor refurbish. It will be going to Micro Fire Apparatus in Allentown to get painted black over red and also part of the red will be repainted. Then the truck will be going to Ecco Communication to get a David Clark Headset system installed. Finally the members will be installing all LED warning lights once the truck is returned.

YARDLEY                            Ordered a Ford F550/Pierce Encore traffic unit.  It will have a 12’ body.  Took delivery in November of their Pierce Dash quint, 2000/400/ , 75ft RM aluminum ladder, 20KW Onan hydraulic generator, Cummins ISL, 500HP, for the main station.

MIDDLETOWN                   Update: Confirmation on their order - a Spartan/Precision, 4-door eight man cab, 1500 GPM, rear-mount pump, 15 KW Harrison hydraulic generator, 3600 watt Will-Burt light tower, 500HP motor, and two ladder racks.

RICHLANDTOWN              Will be ordering a KME Predator, 2000/750/30, Cummins ISM, 500HP, Hale Foam Pro 5.0 CAFS, stainless steel rescue style body, rollup doors, Will-Burt 6KW light tower, dual ladder racks (hose/ladders), 15KW hydraulic generator, and a wheel well oil dry dispenser.

CHALFONT                         This one got under the radar scope somehow, unless they just got it (saw it on their new website), a 2006 Ford F550 crew cab/Reading, open compartmented utility body, 250/290/10, Hurst tool, designated as Tac 74.

    Re: Apparatus Happenings

    Three more questions:

I hear through the grapevine that Upper Makefield ordered a new tanker from 4-Guys.  Anyone got the particulars on it ?

I see Doylestown is selling their classic Hahn engine.  I know they are getting a new ladder - just downsizing an engine ?

Did Union of Bensalem go with E-One for their new tower ?

    Many thanks,

    Bruce

    Re: Apparatus Happenings

Hearing through the grapevine on the following:

Silverdale - ordered a KME engine (anybody go the specs on it) ?

Midway - looking at a elliptical tanker ?

Anybody else got anything new ?

    Many thanks,

    Bruce

    Re: Apparatus Happenings

It has been a month or so since I posted what is going on in the county, so here is what is new.  If anyone has anything else to add, please do.

    Many thanks,

UPPER MAKEFIELD           Update: ordered a International 7600/4-Guys tanker, 1500/3000, Cummins ISM, 485HP, automatic, delivery in June/July of 2009.  It will become Tanker 71, and the present tanker will become Tanker 81 at the sub-station.

DOYLESTOWN                   They are getting a new ladder from Pierce in 2009, and are selling the old one.  I now also see that they are selling their classic 1968 Hahn engine. They will not replace it.

HIILTOWN TWP.                A car ran into the Line Lexington station (Sta. 60) on the morning of 12/12/08 killing the driver and starting a fire which heavily damaged the 2001 Pierce Sabre engine, and slightly damaging the other three rigs in the station – 1999 Freightliner FL/Rescue 1, the 1979 Hahn engine (ex. COUNTY OF BUCKS         Through the Southeast Regional Task Force they have ordered a 2-door Pierce Sabre, 24’ aluminum body with the front section being a 8’ walk-in command center, and the rear 16” being a non walk-in rescue style with rollup doors.  Powered by a Cummins ISL, 425HP, automatic, 25KW Onan pto generator, and a Will-Burt light tower.  This will be a custom communications/service vehicle for hazmat use. An August of 2009 delivery date.

MORRISVILLE                    They have ordered a 2009 Pierce Velocity PUC, 4-door 6-man cab, 1500/750, Cummins ISL 425HP engine, rollup doors, Whelen LED warning light package, 20KW Harrison hydraulic generator, Fire Research lights, 4 Hurst reels, delivery expected July of 2009.

MIDWAY                               On 12/22/08 while doing inspection on my fire companies new utility at Phillips Ford of Manhiem, I stumbled upon Midway’s new utility sitting in the parking lot, a 2009 Ford F250 XL Super Duty/Knapheid, open compartmented utility unit, gas, automatic, painted all red. I also understand they are in the market for an elliptical tanker.

CHALFONT                         At the 12/18/08 special business meeting, the Chalfont Fire Company approved the purchase of a 2009 KME Predator Panther on a Challenger body. They will be changing the paint scheme to black over red (how original). It will have a Hale 1500 GPM pump, 1000 gallons water, 30 gallons foam, seating for 10 (2 fold up jump seats in the back),  Cummins ISL, 425HP, 3 preconnects, 1 bumper line, booster reel, 3 inch Blitzfire preconnect and assorted dead lays, and a 10KW hydraulic generator. Truck will arrive no earlier than September 1, 2009 and it will replace Engine 34-5.

NEWPORTVILLE                They have ordered a HME/Ferrara engine, 1500/1000, Cummins ISL, 400HP, Code 3 lighting up high, leds down low, 12v Scene Lighting on Brow and back of Cab, Led Scene lighting on sides of cab, Bumper Crosslays, PrePiped Deck gun, high side compartments on drivers side, pumper style on officers side, delivery sometime late 2009.  It will replace Engine 82-1 the 1981 Ford/E-one which they will hold on to.

THIRD DISTRICT                I understand they are in the market for another used scope.

DUBLIN                                  Ordered a 2009 KME Predator MFD w/12” raised roof, seating for 8 (2 fold up jump seats in the back),  Cummins ISL, 425HP, ROM rollup doors, walk-around rescue body, 25KW Onan pto generator, Hannay air reel, 2 Hannay electric reels, and a Will-Burt Night Scan light tower.

DELAWARE VALLEY           Ordered a 2009 KME Predator MFD on a Challenger body, 1500/1000, seating for 6,  Cummins ISL, 425HP, ROM rollup doors, and a 10KW Harrison hydraulic generator.

RICHLANDTOWN                Update: they have ordered a KME Predator LFD 16” Raised Roof Chassis, Cummins ISM 500 HP engine, Hale 2000 GPM with CAFS, 750 Water/30 gallon Foam, and a Onan 10KW generator.

SILVERDALE                         Update: they have ordered a KME Predator Panther MFD 12” Raised Roof, Cummins ISL 425 HP, Hale 1500 gpm pump, 1000 gallon tank, 3/16” Challenger Wide Body, 10 KW Harrison hydraulic generator.

EDDINGTON                         Update: They ordered a KME Predator LFD 16” Raised Roof, Cummins ISL 425, 1500 Q2 2 stage Hale, 750 water. Little slow on reporting this: on 11/15/08 they sold their 1993 Emergency One Cyclone engine to Monongah ( Marion County, WV) for $50,000.
