Re: testing on line scanner feed

Ok Chief 41 has tested a Blackberry and says it works great.  I would like to see if someone would test an IPhone.  I'm also setting an account on ootunes.com who is also working with Scanamerica.us who has lots of other feeds from around the country.  The place where Chief 41 tested his BB was http://www.moodio.fm/node/1 . This is a FREE program, all you need to do is sign up for an account and find the Bucks County Pa Scanner and add it to your phone and you're ready to go.  Browse to m.moodio.fm on your mobile phone, log in and pick the radio station from your list.

Its easy.  Let me know what you think,  Thanks to Scott for testing it out. Also remember that you will need to have the unlimited bandwith on your phone or it will get expensive.

Re: testing on line scanner feed

Windows Mobile users try this tell me if it works.  http://71.123.40.100:1480/dummyfilename.wmv This should work for any phone that has windows media player mobile (WMP10) It may take a minute or two to download due to your provider.

On another note, I have had several people email me about Moodio & getting errors like unable to connect or unsported media player or other errors that have caused them to have to do either a soft reboot or sometimes a hard reboot and even removing the battery from there Blackberry.  I have contacted Moodio and they state that the problem is on the cell phone provider end & a small problem on their servers.  The cell phone company's hate internet radio and mobile broadcasting.  Look at your TOS even states in there no mobile broadcasting.  On the Moodio side, this bandwith eating cell phones is causing there servers to fail.   IF YOU GET AN ERROR try to re-connect, this may take a few times.  If the stream locks up causes your BB to freeze re-boot.  Also have your camera/video setting either shut off/disabled or reduce the screen size down so it is not set at full screen.

Also since I don't have an internet phone I really cant help (My wife is too cheap LOL, don't tell her I said that either)

The only other way to get error free mobile stream, would cost me $899.00 a month and it would cost you the listener to buy an app or sign up for one of those internet radio stations.  But I want to keep it free.  Also anyone one know of any BB programmers who could make a free app would be nice.

Re: testing on line scanner feed

***UPDATE***  Since the 2 multiple alarms in the past week or so. I have recieved about 40 emails from some about the problems they are having connecting to the scanner via their blackberry on moodio.fm.  I have come to find a possible fix for this.  Blackberry users please purchase or update you XPlayer to the current version HERE then

    • Purchase the latest version of xPlayer here. The player is free but the Internet Radio features require you to purchase it ($19.95).
    • After installing xPlayer, open it and select 'Internet Radio' from the menu.
    • Select 'Create a radio station' from the next menu.
    • in the Genre field enter scanner, and in the URL Address field paste/enter http://bucksfd.no-ip.info:1480
    • Select 'Create a radio station' from the menu.
    • Now select the entry you just created to begin listening.

IPhone users, I'm working on it.

Windows Mobile users again I'm working on it.

I may be moving to a free provider called scanamerica.us, this may cause the scanner URL to change and you having to update your websites and phones.  I'm currently talking to the owners about their software.  It would mean that no matter what phone or computer that you have you would be able to listen.

On another note.  Since the Bucks County Feed is averaging almost 125 connections a day.  It is the busiest scanner feed in Pa.  The feed gets more connections than anyother scanner feed.  Thanks for that.  Also there are several of our Armed Forces members who are listening from all over the world.

The 2nd alarm in Plumstead 266 connections, the 2nd most connections that have ever connected (#1 was the big fire in Conshochocken) I dont have the stats for the Lower South job yet.

    Thanks again

Re: testing on line scanner feed

***UPDATE***  Windows Mobile users, another user has set up and run the feed and states it works great.  He recommends the following in order to listen to the feed:

Hey I tested your new version on my windows mobile phone and it works great, very fast. I had been using http://bucksfd.no-ip.info:1480/ on windows mobile, I just made it into a playlist file and it worked great, just a little slower than the new one.

    So I hope this helps.

I just talked to the owner of Scanamerica.us if I do get the software that he uses, I can broadcast from my site and his (Scanamerica.us is the largest US live feed provider, EVERY FEED IS FREE)  So you will have 2 places to listen to on a computer and 1 place to listen to on your phone or IPhone.  The only thing is that some of the apps for phones may COST YOU, but there are some that are FREE like FStream (IPhone users only)

You can see mobile interface by going to http://mobile.scanamerica.us to see what you would need for your phone (Iphone and others)

My question is how many would be interested in this?

Would you listen on your mobile phone or other device if YOU had to BUY an app.

I'm trying to keep things FREE for both you the listener and me.  I don't want to change the URL for the feed now since alot of people and companies have it bookmarked on there computers and web sites now and it would take a long time to get everyone to switch over to a new URL.  The only thing that would change is that if you use scanamerica.us you would be connecting to there servers not to mine (this would cause a slight delay in real-time broadcast.  Right now there is a 3-5 second delay connecting to my computer, the delay might be 3-10 seconds since I would be pushing the stream to scanamerica servers.)

Please I need as much feedback as possible from you guys and gals to see what I should do next.  Either reply back or PM me or email me tom@secondalarmfirefilms.com

    Thanks Tom

Re: testing on line scanner feed

OK here is some new News.  I have gone and placed the Bucks County feed up on www.scanamerica.us .  So the following people should listen up.  Firefox and MAC user, you can now connect and listen to the Bucks County feed anytime you like please go to http://bucks.pa.scanamerica.us/index.php and select the link called Bucks County Police, Fire and EMS.  This is my feed, the one on top isn't and is down most of the time.  I will put a pop up player on the website soon so you can go there and listen instead of following all these links.  But right now I'm testing so I need the feedback.

Mobile users please use this link, select your phone/device

     http://mobile.scanamerica.us/index.php?t=l&s=Pennsylvania&c=Bucks&f=pa_bucks

and just follow the directions for your device.  Again I need your feedback and a link will be posted on at www.secondalarmfirefilms.com soon.

For those of you like RECORDED AUDIO Scanamerica has it.  You will be able to listen to recorded audio right from the scanner feed, so if you missed a job you all you need is the date and time the job happen and just click on it.

The Bucks County feed at www.secondalarmfirefilms.com/livescanner.html and mms://bucksfd.no-ip.info:1480 will continue to work.  I'm keep both up and running so (secondalarmfirefilms & scanamerica) so now you will have 2 places to listen to and 1 place for all you "mobile people"

Re: testing on line scanner feed

Due to a major hard drive failure the Bucks County Feed is down as of right now (6/29/09 @ 05:07) http://bucksfd.no-ip.info:1480 is not working.  I have moved the feed to another computer and THE ONLY WAY TO LISTEN is to go to http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=2249 and click onto the Bucks County link and pick your way of listening. I have no time limit on when I can get the regular server back up and running.  If anyone has any questions please contact me ASAP at tomsteiner@sprint.blackberry.net This is my only email that is currently not affected by the HD crash.  Also if anyone knows of computer tech who can help me fix it please call me asap 267-784-0542 or use the BB email.  Thanks and I'll keep everyone informed as to when the server is back up and running.  Another way to access the feed is to go to www.radioreference.com click on live audio-> map of PA -> then onto Bucks County.  For those of you who listen via smartphones at the top of the page click on mobile select PA -> and follow the link.

Re: testing on line scanner feed

Good News I hope.  I think I have the feed up and running again.  It works on my machine on my network.  I just need some people to check it from there computers to see if they can connect and how the sound level is.  I will be working on the server tweaking it a little more since the buffer time is too much (9 seconds= about 15 second delay) So please email me at tomsteiner@sprint.blackberry.net and let me know call me or text me at 2677840542 anytime (I dont care 24/7 I work nights).  I'm also keeping the www.radioreference.com site up for those of you who want to listen on your smart phones and I can move that feed to other machines in case anything happens again.  That feed address is http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=2249 for you computer listeners and for the mobile/smartphone users go here http://m.radioreference.com/ click RR Live Audio than USA -> Pennsylvania->Bucks County ->link to feed.  Sounds like alot but it works great on all smartphones.

Please keep me informed as to how the feed sounds thanks Tom

Also many thanks to Batt 24 for setting me up with one of "connections"  I owe you pal.

Re: testing on line scanner feed

    Hello all,

I had to change the amount of max connections (I forgot about that) so now more people can listen.  The feed seems to be up and running ok now, just need some feedback from you listeners.  I'm going to keep the Radioreference feed up also and that will be used as a backup, so if you cant connected to the livescanner.html feed on my site go to the other one, as I can move that feed to different computers if needed.  I'm waiting for some additional software to come to update my site since all was lost during the crash.

PS if you look at the RR top 20 scanners, Bucks County is up there with the large cities for the number of listeners.

Re: testing on line scanner feed

Attention all Blackberry owners.  There is a new app out for all blackberry's to stream scanner feeds on.  The owner of scanamerica/radioreference.com has come out with a new App for all Blackberry's.  Yes Bucks County is on this.  Here is the link http://ota.berryscanner.com its real easy to use (no more going thru all the hoops on radioreference.com to listen on line).  When you start the app select United States -> Pa -> Bucks County.  It will auto play.  Hit your menu button and you can select the audio output (headphones, bluetooth, speakerphone etc) It will also tell you if the scanner is online or offline.  Let me know how you like it.

For those you you who have a Blackberry and want me to send you this link to your BB send me a pin message (402F5420) or email me at tomsteiner@sprint.blackberry.net  and I'll forward you the above link.

Re: testing on line scanner feed

Due to some conflicting microsoft program update the Encoder used to transmit the feed to secondalarmfirefilms.com/livescanner.html is very unstable.  Microsoft is aware of the "bugs" they have but will not fix them.  So please dont download Internet Explorer V8 and Windows XP Service Pack 3.  They make your computer unstable and it conflicts with everything.  So from time to time the amount of CPU usage exceeds 90% and causes the encoder to crash and Internet Explorer to crash.  If you have any problems connection to www.secondalarmfirefilms.com/livescanner.html (website for the feed) please go to the back up site http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=2249 and pick you player that you use and listen there.  Yes this is the same feed, you connect to radioreference servers not directly to me (much more stable).  I will keep you advised
