    New County Communications Center

I was travelling thru your county last week and I drove past the new com center.  It's obvious that they had serious post 9/11 era security in mind when they built it.  It looks more like an air-traffic control center from the outside.  Any dispatchers who work there on this board? How do you like your new facility?  Are there any windows?   I visited your old center at the county courthouse 20 years ago and liked the window view from the top floor.

Listening on the scanner I also noticed you don't have that distinctive low-pitched "pre-tone" for ambulance calls anymore. You now use the same tone for both ambulance calls and local boxes. Is this another case of the new equipment having less capability than the old stuff.  That's what used to happen in the center I recently retired from.............

The new center is the old Station 69, Naval Air Development Center firehouse.  Was on the airfield there years ago, and once the airfield closed, the property was redeveloped including moving the comm center there.  The hazmat team is also based in the old firehouse, along with the county command post and communications truck.  Yes, the EMS clearing tone is gone for now and we've been told the new equipment has less capability than the old stuff.  Hard to believe when you can get thousands of ring tones for your cell phone for $0.99!!!
